Chicken update: scrambled edition

Five of our chickens are laying now, including one of the Ameraucanas, which lays the most beautiful blue eggs.

It’s hard to get the color right in photos, but I am going to try to match this color for the walls of the girls’ room.

When we bought six chickens, we were hedging our bets – at least one would be a rooster, right? And we couldn’t possibly keep six chickens alive our first year, right? Against all odds, we are getting five eggs a day, and there are only so many scrambled eggs my kids will eat (they begged me for cheerios this morning). Meatloaf, french toast, and egg salad sandwiches for dinner.  There’s a good chance if you stop by my house, you will go home with a day or twos worth of eggs, or at least some cookie dough from the freezer. Just bring your own carton – we’ve been using the same one for 3 months!

My parents have 13 chickens and get about a dozen eggs a day. Now you need to start selling them! Awesome job!!

Ivory, I am interested in fresh eggs and will pay over the “market price.” Just let me know when, where and how!

Dude, my chicken lady has abandoned me. I will regularly buy eggs from you if your willing.

  4. OHM, how I envy your life! If I lived near you I’d buy your fresh eggs. I bet they taste amazing.

Yes! You give me hope that the slacker poultry in my backyard will also one day produce. The eggs look awesome, nice job!

Oof, so jealous of your chickens. Andy denies me chickens because he doesn’t want to deal with poop.

I will take home eggs any time you are looking to give them away :). Yes, we have our own chickens, but with 3 of them we get 2-3 eggs a day and I usually cook at least 4 for breakfast every day so I end up buying them anyway. We are getting more chickens in the spring!

NOM NOM. Also-pretty color. I wish I had more time to go to my egg ladies house. I have been buying in the grocery store. They are still brown, and supposedly organic, but I NEVER get the green/blue ones there!!!
