Year of Pleasures #5

A guest post over at Aimee’s, about our choice to homeschool.

DITL 1/15/11

I wish I had stressed that I do not think homeschool is for everyone, in the same way I do not think natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, babywearing, and drinking 2 pots of coffee a day is for everyone. These are choices that our family has made mindfully, and we are happy with the path we are on. If your family can say the same, then I promise I will celebrate with you. This isn’t a “Mama Wars” issue for me – I won’t debate it, or try to convince you that I am “right”. Please don’t take my passion and excitement about the path my family is on as anything but that.

Agreed! I have a few homeschooling momma friends* that bad mouth PS’ers every chance they get and it pisses me off… We do it because it provides up with a freedom we normally wouldn’t have. Who knows what we will be doing in 3 years!

*friends, in the sense that my kids enjoy their kids, not so much that we have a lasting bond…

Aaaand that’s why I love you.

Soo true! I have strong feelings about homeschooling(as in wishing I could still). I loved everything about it. Unfortunately it is not something that works for our family right now, and while I may not be entirely happy about it my kids are thriving. They are generally happy and that matters. I applaude you for sharing your views. I wish there didn’t even need to be a disclaimer. I did not find your blog post to be holier than thou. I found it to be full of passion and happiness. We all do the best we can with the resources we have. I wish more mothers could see that.

  4. Beautifully said. Now why can’t everyone think this way?!
